All Macquarie students and staff can access and complete Consent Matters free of charge. It can be found on iLearn, the University’s learning management system and is located specifically in the Respect. Now. Always. (RNA) community site. Go here to enrol or download this guide to read more about how to access the course.

The RNA community site is a growing online portal for all students and staff to find out more about support services, workshops, and other resources in the area of preventing and responding to sexual assault and sexual harassment on campus.

Now. Always. team is excited to announce that students can now register for and complete the Consent Matters online course – free of charge!

Consent Matters is an online course that is designed to help you understand sexual consent and promote positive change across university communities. It covers areas such as sexual consent, communication and relationships, and active and safe bystander intervention.

The course is interactive, evidence-based, and engaging. It takes around 60 minutes to complete.

Consent Matters is being implemented as one part of a comprehensive, holistic, evidence-based, and inclusive sexual assault and sexual harassment prevention strategy at Macquarie University.

To alleviate this issue, we need to educate students and staff alike at Macquarie about what sexual assault and sexual harassment are, and about how to prevent and respond to their occurrence.

Beginning in Week 2 of Session 1, 2018, the Respect. Now. Always. team will be running a workshop series on respectful relationships, consent, and preventing and responding to sexual harassment or violence. The workshops will be 1.5 to 2 hours in duration each, and will be held twice a week for the first three weeks of each month throughout Session 1.

The workshops will be an exciting, interactive, engaging, and inclusive opportunity to gather with students from across the University to learn about sexual assault and sexual harassment, respectful relationships, consent, and skills in preventing and responding to sexual assault and sexual harassment. In doing so, students can be empowered to do their part in helping to shape a culture of safety and respect at Macquarie and across the community more generally.

Join the Student Equity and Diversity Team for the next round of Respect. Now. Always. student consultations. Research indicates specific populations are disproportionately affected by sexual violence. In order to better shape prevention and response to sexual assault and sexual harassment, our strategy must be informed by these groups. As such, the next round of consultations seeks to work with the following populations:

  • Women Identifying Students – 12 October, 12:00-1:30pm, C7A, Level 4, Room 407
  • Students Living with Disability and Carers – 17 October, 2:30-4:00pm, C7A, Level 4, Room 407
  • LGBTQIA+ Students – 19 October, 12:00-1:30pm, location to be confirmed
  • Culturally and Linguistically Diverse/ International Students – 24 October, 10:00-11:30am, C7A, Level 4, Room 407
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students – 31 October, 10:00-11:30am, C7A, Level 4, Room 407
