O Week’s exciting program of welcome events, workshops, drop-in sessions, social activities and tours will help you discover the campus, experience university life and find out everything you need to know to prepare for the start of classes.

There’s lots to see and do but one of the best things about starting your student journey here at Macquarie is getting involved with our extra-curricular activities and having fun. During O Week, there are over 100 student societies who will bring the campus to life on Friday 27 and Monday 30 July at their O Week stalls. Ranging from sport societies to academic and religious groups to those catering for the performing arts, there is certainly something for everyone. Check out these and many more at our drop-in sessions.

You should also get along to your faculty’s welcome event. These are important sessions that you should attend, where you’ll have the opportunity to meet your peers and be guided through key information to get you off to a great start. You’ll also meet your Macquarie University Mentors. These are student guides who’ll be able to guide and support you as you transition to university life.

Current students should also join in as it’s a great opportunity to reconnect with peers in Session 2.

So how do you find out what’s in store? Choose your interests from the events program and then register now to create your personalised schedule so you’ll not miss out on any of the things important to your university induction.

There’s also an app to stay up to date and keep yourself organised during O Week. Just visit your app store and search for ‘Macquarie Uni Events’.

Our previous Special Events and Projects Officer Alistair Booth entered Ubar as a submission from Campus Life and it was endorsed by both Property and Peter Fasogiannis, Manager of Campus Services, who was on hand in Melbourne at the Gala Awards Dinner to accept the trophy.

In addition, the National Barista Competition was held the day before and Stephen O’Mara represented Campus Life after winning the NSW University Barista Comp in late April for the second consecutive year.

Stephen was up against some tough competition but did extremely well and was placed 4th. Congratulations to both Campus Services and Stephen on their accomplishments!

The new Ubar is also scheduled to open on Monday. It’s been one of your favourite late afternoon/evening hangouts for a while, but now it’ll be open from 7:30am Monday to Friday all year. Meet a friend for a coffee, chill out or study throughout the day. There’s still a great line-up of events, too. Stop by from 2pm on Tuesday 7 November to catch the Melbourne Cup action on the big screen, enter sweeps and raffles, or compete for ‘best dressed’. Happy Hour continues in the Campus Common every Friday from 4:30pm to 6:30pm ($5 basics and $10 pizzas). Follow Ubar on Facebook to see which of your favourite artists will play each week.

Now that the new precinct is ready, we plan to permanently close the Campus Hub this Friday 3 November. As a reminder, banks/ATMs, grocery stores and other shops are located at the popular Macquarie Centre, located within walking distance to the University. MQ merchandise will still be available on campus through a pop-up stall and online store.

Later this year, C9A and C10A will be removed to make room for an innovative new teaching and learning building – to be called 1 Central Courtyard – with food and beverage offerings, as well as the first two of five student housing buildings. Watch this space for more details. In the meantime, enjoy the new Campus Common!

The night is a chance to celebrate and recognise the achievements of our clubs and societies here at Macquarie. Invitations are open to every student to join us for a catered night of celebration and live music. So come get dressed up in your finest threads, eat some tasty food and enjoy the company of a few hundred of your coolest peers and staff members.
