MacWarriors win at the Eastern University Games

MacWarriors at the Eastern University Games

The MacWarriors representing Macquarie at the Eastern University Games

In July, 175 Macquarie students attended the Eastern University Games in Wollongong, where they competed against other east coast universities.

This year, psychology student Hannah Dodd and engineering/economics student Owen Logan were appointed University Captains, leading a team of 22 sport captains and managers to the event. We asked Hannah and Owen what the experience of representing Macquarie and their fellow sports-stars was like.

“Going as University Captains, and not just hockey and touch football players, was a really eye-opening experience. For the first time, we were much more engaged in other sports, which was enjoyable.

It was a big, exhausting week, with many games being played in just a few days. The memories and friendships that come from the week are worth all the sore muscles, sickness and complete exhaustion. The friends you make within the uni squad and especially in your team are ones that’ll last a lifetime.”

Congratulations to the following teams and individuals on their medals:

Women’s Volleyball – Gold
Mixed Touch – Gold
Women’s Touch – Silver
Simone Hargraves (Squash) – Silver
Dom Ratcliffe (Squash) – Bronze

If you’re interested in representing Macquarie, the Australian University Games will be held in September. Learn about how you can get involved here.
